★Spending time with the Washu students was a very special experience, and we are thankful for the hospitality you have shown us. The students were very excited about this exchange and both Washu students and Davis students can benefit from sharing our cultures. I was happy that we were given such a wonderful welcome and that the students were energetic every day. I have made many new friends, learned about your culture, and improved my own Japanese skills. If I could I would love to stay for a much longer time. Washu High School has been very generous to us, so please come to America so that we may repay the favor.

★My time here at Washu High School has been a memorable experience in the best sense of the word. I truly appreciate how everyone opened their arms and hearts to us, and I have made friendships here that I hope to maintain for a long, long time. Though there was somewhat of a language barrier, we were able to understand each other. This affirms my belief that even though we speak different languages and we come from different backgrounds, we are all just teenagers with the same priorities and goals. Thank you so much. I do not know the words in any language to truly express my gratitude.

★This has been a great experience overall. Even though the epidemic made things difficult in the beginning, the time we have spent at Washu High School has been well worth the many schedule changes. All the students at this school have been so nice and welcoming, and I’m so glad we got the chance to meet so many of them. Even though our languages were very different, I was able to communicate with the students and got pretty close with a few of them. In the future, I hope I have the chance to return to Washu High School and visit the friends I have made in this short week.

★Everyone was so nice; I felt like a celebrity. (In the good way.) It was such an amazing opportunity to experience modern, and traditional, Japanese culture. I don’t know how to thank Washu enough to express my full gratitude. All of the students were extremely helpful and nice, and it was tons of fun talking to them. Although many were very shy, meeting the Washu students is something I’ll never forget, nor is the general experience of attending a school so different from our own(but just as amazing!) The only things I ask for now are for the Washu students to keep being so wonderful, and for the exchange program to continue so other Davis students can see how nice everyone here is.

★Spending time with the Washu students was very interesting and fun. I enjoyed English classes when we interacted with the students and got to talk to them one on one and get to know them. I also loved participating in music classes and brass band club. Everybody was very encouraging and nice to me, and I felt welcome wherever I went. Some students were really shy, but it was fun trying to get them to open up, and when they did, everybody was really interesting. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to not only interact with my host student, but with all the students in Washu high school!

★Thank you so much for the opportunity to go to high school for a week in Japan. It was the best week of school I have ever had! We all are very happy to have gone, and I am keeping in touch with all of the friends I've made! The most surprising thing that I experienced at Washu High was how friendly all of the students were. I have heard stories about students biased to those not from Japan, but everyone was just wonderful! All of the students were happy (with some prompting!) to practice their English and learn more about us students from Davis. They were interesting, and obviously very friendly. I had such a great time talking to everyone! My favorite part of the exchange program was getting to experience Japanese culture at such an inside level. I have been to Japan as a tourist before, but this was completely different! My host family was hilarious and we did fun things pretty much every day. My family was very considerate of my lack of knowledge of Japanese customs, and were very indulgent towards my wanting to get to know Japan better. I learned so many things! Actually, I had two favorite things. My other favorite was getting so much more fluent in Japanese! That three-week stay in Japan has made all the difference in the world. I feel like I can participate in conversation very well now, and I have learned lots of new vocabulary and grammatical rules. There was nothing about our stay that I didn't like. I would have liked to do the homestay program for longer, but that was impossible! I actually was glad that we could travel first, though; that way when we got to the host families, we weren't brain-dead and were used to speaking Japanese. This trip has made me decide to definitely go to college either in Japan or at a college that has an exchange program with Japanese schools. I can't wait to go again! Thank you so much for all. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world!
